Preview: iQ technology software version 3.0 Beta 2

Beta 2 for system software version 3.0 for iQ technology on SMART Board interactive displays for both Education and Business includes a number of new features and performance improvements.

This is only available under the Beta channel and will not conflict with version 2.9 that is currently running on the Stable channel. iQ 3.0 Beta 2 can be run on any AM30/AM40 appliance on any SMART Board 6000, 7000, 6000 Pro and 7000 Pro series interactive displays.

SMART is investing heavily in developing the most innovative and useful walk-up-and-use experience in education. To not disrupt customers who have been trained on the current iQ experience, SMART will first introduce this functionality into the Beta channel as an opportunity to preview the experience. If customers wish to switch to this experience prior to full launch on the Stable channel in Fall 2018, they can. The current production iQ experience will remain consistent until Fall 2018.

The iQ 3.0 Beta 2 release is part of a larger program to release frequent iterations of iQ software. Expect to see additional releases of iQ 3.0 Beta 3, Beta 4, etc. over the coming months.

What’s new under iQ 3.0 Beta 2?

  1. Customizable home screen experience
  • Ability to customize your home screen wallpaper with 9 preset options. A future release will allow you to upload your own wallpaper via thumb drive.
  • Ability to add Recent items to Favorites.
  • Ability to reorder Favorites.
  1. Apps Library
  • A new Apps Library is available, offering several pre-defined curated apps.
  • In this release, many of these curated apps will be shortcuts to popular education websites to easily allow users to engage in relevant content.
  • Customers will be able to set any of these apps as Favorites on their home screen.
  • Future releases will allow users to search for and add apps to the collection.
  1. Multi-Device Screen Sharing
  • Users will now be able to share up to two (2) AirPlay or Google Cast devices at the same time.
  • Both devices will be able to share as live sessions in the screen sharing lobby.
  • Users can click on any screen shared in the lobby to view in full screen. Exiting the full screen view will return users to the lobby.
  1. Player enhancements
  • New 3x3 whiteboard in Player:
Users now have access to a new 3x3 whiteboard in Player.
                    New blank pages will allow:
Panning in 4 directions – left, right, up, down.
Zoom in & out via pinch & zoom gestures.
Ink to be selected and moved anywhere on the canvas.
  • Ability to create new Notebook files directly from Player.
  • Notebook files accessed via USB key will save changes and when exported back to USB key, will retain the .notebook file extension and can therefore be re-opened on SMART Notebook software.
  • Player now supports animations from Notebook files (e.g. fade in, fade out, flip around axis, fly in, fly out, shrink & grow, spin).
All iQ 3.0 Beta releases will be automatically pushed out to AM30/AM40 appliances over-the-air (OTA), as long as your appliances are set to the Beta channel, are connected to a network, and have been left unused for 4 hours. These Beta releases will not impact your AM30/AM40 appliances if they are set to the Stable channel.

Important notes:
By migrating from the Stable channel to the Beta channel, all whiteboard content, Notebook Player content, settings, etc. will migrate over.
However, when migrating back from the Beta channel to the Stable channel, a factory reset will ensue and you will lose all content.
